A destination for all seasons Bracken Ridge Villas are set on a 25 acre estate of expansive lawns and Semillon and Shiraz vineyards. Private gardens surround each two-story loft style villa. Each well appointed self-contained villa comes complete with a fully fitted kitchen and clean quality bed and bath linen are supplied for your vacationing comfort. There are intimate villas which also feature a romantic spa bath for two. Relax and enjoy the cozy log fire in winter and air conditioning in summer.

Accommodation Details

THE STABLES Book

The cozy country feel of this villa for 6 – 10 people is a converted horse stables. It has a large 2 bedroom open loft with dormer window views of the vineyard and the Brokenback mountain range. A third private bedroom with Queen bed on the ground floor offers easy access without stairs.

A fully fitted kitchen allows casual dining either at the full sized dining table or outside at the picnic table on the walkout verandah overlooking the estate. A great place for large groups who want the space to be together either inside or out.

The stables was inspired by the farmhouses of times past, designed as a converted old horses’ stables. Step back and you can imagine how different a scene this villa would have presented. The two horses, Ole Tom and Onyx would have slept downstairs in the barn part of this house. The bedroom was the tack room, housing the horses’ harnesses, bridles and saddle blankets. Ole Tom used to sleep in the kitchen, with Onyx across the way by the Dutch barn door, which allows the top half to be opened while the bottom half remains bolted shut. The bathroom stored their feed, usually oats, and sometimes corn as a special treat. The stairs led up to what used to be the hayloft, which can hold up to 108 bales. The big double doors at the top allowed hay bales, weighing up to 20 kg, to be put in from the hayracks below. The hay would be used to supplement the horses’ feed when the winter grass was slow growing and the rain made it too miserable to be outside. Today, however, there are no hay bales or horse poo in site! Instead, this fully equipped converted barn offers cosy fittings for a large group of friends or family to enjoy the private vineyard just beyond the front veranda. Sit back, relax, and you may just hear the sound of horse shoes trotting in the distance…

Bed Configuration: 1 Queen Bedroom on ground floor with easy access for limited mobility and wheelchairs. The upstairs loft has a Queen bed on the landing which can convert to 2 Super Singles, Bedroom 2 has a King sized bed which can be converted to 2 Queens and Bedroom 3 is fitted with a Queen and an additional single bed. This villa can sleep 8 on furnished beds and 11 with Trundles. This is a fully fitted villa with large outdoor entertaining area with private BBQ.

The quaint setting of this villa offers complete accommodation for a small family or two couples. The spiral staircase leads you to the open loft bedroom with Queen bed. The private downstairs bedroom on the ground floor is furnished with twin singles.

Unwind in the spa bath before you enjoy the complimentary Estate wine by a crackling log fire. Enjoy a quiet moment sitting on the verandah with the vines in the foreground and the Brokenback mountain range peaking up from the back.

Lake Bonavista is a leafy suburban sanctuary with a beautiful man made lake at its center. This private green space is for the residents of this area of Calgary. Calgary is one of two large cities in the province of Alberta in western Canada. The name Bonavista is French in origin and means beautiful view. With it’s leafy park areas and lake activities it is certainly that. Swimming, fishing and boating in the summer lead to skating, sledding and ice fishing in the winter. This city is where our second son was born and where his mother’s family originated from.

Bed configuration: This villa has a romantic loft bedroom upstairs with a Queen bed and a private twin bedroom on the ground floor. Complete with a spa bath for the weekend Getaway.

Kingston upon Hull is a ship building deep-water port in the north of England. In it’s hey day, it was an important transferring point for cargo as well as people. It still acts as one of the major ports for ferries to mainland Europe, but the cross channel tunnel and air travel have diminished these roles. It was in this quiet corner of the British isles that our daughter and first child was born.

Bed configuration: This villa has two private Queen bed bedrooms: one on the ground floor and one upstairs. There is an additional single bed upstairs and a sofa bed on the ground floor in this villa. This villa can sleep 5 on furnished beds and 6-7 with the sofa bed.

Cathedral ceilings lead to the loft bedroom at the top of the spiral staircase for your romantic holiday. The downstairs bedroom fitted with clean crisp linen on a Queen bed allows easy access. A jet spa tub for two is complimented by a bottle of our finest estate wine. Enjoy a stroll in the vines or watch kangaroos nibbling grass at dusk.

As with all our villas, there is a fully fitted kitchen and dining room. A full Aussie BBQ on the verandah gives some flexibility to your getaway plans.

At the beginning foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Canada lies the beautiful deep valley town of Chetwynd, British Columbia. This far northern logging and mining town also boasts raw and untamed wilderness. Grizzly bears, moose and caribou roam the hills around the town in their quest for their ancient territories. Three First Nations tribes still hunt and honor nature in this remote northern location. It is a minimum of 100 kilometers in any direction to the next large settlement of people and supplies. Bear bells and a gun are required equipment for a trail walk in the woods. The sun going down on the deep valley is sudden and leaves a dusty purple haze glowing above the surrounding mountain tops of this small town where our first son was born.

Bed configuration: This villa with its spiral staircase to the Queen bed loft and vineyard views is the most romantic. It has a large spa bath for two and everything you need to enjoy a get away. It also has a private Queen bedroom on the main floor. This villa can sleep 4 people.

THE ATHABASCAN Book

A private and cozy country villa for a small group of 6 – 8 people. This well appointed 3 bedroom villa is the perfect design. One ground floor Queen bedroom and 2 large second storey Queen beds with an extra single and pull out twin sofa bed.

The open plan lounge and dining area with crackling log fire allow for long conversations with friends. The secluded private garden of this larger villa leads out to the rolling manicured paddock and the Shiraz vineyard.

The mighty Athabasca River flows by the small northern Alberta town of Athabasca. The “land of the whispering hills”, as the local First Nations word translates, is a land of smooth flowing hills and valleys of rich and fertile farm land and wilderness. When the northern parts of this Canadian province were first being settled by the British and French, they used the shallow but quick moving river to move supplies and people ever northward with big paddle wheelers from this trading post town. Some of the first brick buildings are still being used today for modern business trading. The master proprietor of this estate has a long family history of settlement in this area with most of his immediate relatives still farming and working in and around the Athabasca area. It was in Athabasca that he met and later married his high school sweetheart whose family moved 600 km north of Calgary to buy a farm 4 km down the road from his Dad’s big farming operation.

Bed Configuration: The main floor Queen bed bedroom allows easy access for wheelchairs and limited mobility. There are two private bedrooms upstairs. Bedroom 2 has a Queen and single bed. Bedroom 3 has a Queen bed and sofa bed. This villa can sleep 8 on furnished beds.
