East Maitland NSW 2323 Australia

The Old Victoria has stood silent and dignified since the year Queen Victoria ascended the throne. Built only 49 years after Arthur Phillip founded a penal settlement at Sydney, the Old Victoria holds its own in a town rich in iconic buildings. It stood firm as the 1850s gold rush came and went. It thrived as many of Australia’s colonies were born and was still standing proud when those colonies unified into a single nation in 1901. Built long before Canberra was founded in the year of 1911, The Old Victoria has seen two world wars, survived the trying years of the great depression, withstood the raging waters of Maitland's floods and witnessed our first Prime Minister, Sir Edmund Barton, take office in 1901. Draped in history, The Old Victoria Hotel is a step back in time but offers all the modern conveniences. At the helm of our restaurant is an innovative young chef. The fully renovated bar offers organic wines and local craft beers. The accommodation and modern bathroom facilities are sure to impress. So join us for a night or a week as you take advantage of everything Maitland has to offer.

Poet's Room Book

The glow of the evening lamp, the prose on the wall, the deep mahogany of the dresser, bedside tables and a slipper chair add to the old world charm of this room and ensures the visitor feels at home. Bring a book and laze through the afternoon in the quiet solitude of the Poet’s Room or join fellow guests in the luxurious setting of the communal Drawing Room. Musician's Room Book

Don’t be surprised if you hear the rising tones of a violin soloist drifting up from the bar downstairs. It won’t be the ambiance of the room causing your imagination to play tricks on you. Nor will it be the sounds of yesteryear. It will be our local violinist drawing her bow artfully across the strings of the hollow wooden box.

Seamstress's Room Book

The simple elegance of the bright and airy Seamstress’s Room is a breath of fresh air. The room overlooks the hotel courtyard and catches the afternoon sun. So throw open the sheer curtains and let the sunlight stream in as you immerse yourself in a timeless novel before enjoying an apéritif in the afternoon.

Decorated in soft blues, the uncomplicated and unadorned elegance of the decor befits the time of the seamstress. The authentic simplicity of the room is reminiscent of a Jane Austin novel minus, of course, Elizabeth Bennett and Mister Darcy.
