Constructed in traditional Japanese style, Japanese Mountain Retreat Mineral Spring and Spa has been designed to immerse the visitor in all things Japanese, evoking relaxation through balance and harmony with five star style accommodation.
Created to be a haven for couples, and to give them the opportunity to shun the outside world and instead reconnect with each other. Simplistic Japanese architecture and design, natural surroundings and lack of distractions (apart from a CD player and TV), encourages intimacy and allows visitors to focus inward. The resort features a Moroccan Spa and Roman Bathhouse offering spa therapies specific to Morocco.

Whilst the objective was to create an authentic ryokan experience, the needs of both Western and Asian guests have not been overlooked.

Shoji screens are used to partition living and sleeping areas, allowing natural light to flood into the minimalist interiors. Floors are covered with traditional Tatami mats.
The retreat encourages visitors to relax with a soak in a deep spa bath (ofuro) overlooking your own private Japanese outdoor garden (niwa). To the Japanese, the bathing process means a lot more than simply getting clean, the focus being on shedding layers of clothing and cleansing the soul. Our newest addition are Cedar Hot Tubs on the decks of Kyoto and Sakura Retreats containing hot mineral water offering unlimited bathing from check in until 11 p.m.
Complimentary private use of the swimming lagoon is available during the warmer months.

1. Reduce consumption of the following: water, energy, paper, pesticides and encourage greater recycling.

2. Communicate our environmental policy to staff and suppliers, encouraging business with companies who share our belief in a sustainable future.

Recycled and plantation materials have been used in the construction of the building.
Green house gas is offset by plantation of bamboo groves.
Water saving methods include the construction of a wetland wastewater treatment system, use of ground spring water, and tank water, with grey water being used for irrigation.
Energy efficient lighting is used throughout the retreat.
Installation of 12 X 26,000 litre water tanks.
Development of a constructed wetland using excess waste water.

LOCATION

Japanese Mountain Retreat Mineral Spring and Spa is situated on five secluded acres of natural forest overlooking water gardens and landscaped gardens. Just 45 minutes from Melbourne in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges and 15 minutes form the heart of the Yarra Valley.

Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements or food allergies _____________________________________________________

We take extra care with guests who have specific dietary requirements however please be aware that there may be traces of peanuts, egg
and gluten in some of the ingredients used in the breakfast and evening menu and any available snacks.

If you decide to leave early no refunds will be issued for the unused portion of your stay, package or spa services booked but not used. A transfer of unused time or days will not be available should you decide to leave early.

I understand that Japanese Mountain Retreats are a Smoke Free Zone inside and that pets are not permitted at any time. I also understand that a $400.00 cleaning fee will be charged to my credit card should this policy not be adhered to.

Any beverages or services not paid for upon checkout will be debited to my credit card.

All retreats include private outdoor mineral bathing hot tubs, I hereby state that I have no known medical conditions that may be affected by bathing in mineral water 37-40 degrees.

I am aware of the risks associated with outdoor mineral bathing, indoor mineral bathing & steam rooms. Guests will fully indemnify and hold harmless Japanese Mountain Retreat, its affiliates, subsidiaries, representatives, agents, staff and suppliers from and against all liabilities, claims, expenses, damages and losses, including legal fees, arising out of/or in connections with the spa treatments , services and/or facilities.

Payment Policy

All accommodation bookings require a 100% payment via one of the following options:
Credit card: If you are paying with a credit card please note that a 1.25% merchant service fee will apply to Visa and MasterCard payment. This is in addition to the total amount payable.
Payments by EFTPOS, bank transfer or Cash do not attract a fee.

As a small boutique property our business depends on maximising occupancy, cancellations often result in empty rooms due to booking lead times..
No refunds are paid for ‘No Show’ or booking cancellations, management reserves the right to transfer a booking to another date at it’s discretion. A fee of $400.00 per day will apply to any transferred bookings.

Transferred bookings will not be offered for long weekends or public holidays. If you decide to leave early no refunds will be issued for the unused portion of your stay, package or unused spa services.

We will email a confirmation invoice to you setting out all the details of your reservation providing directions on how to find us. Please check the reservation details, all discrepancies should be notified to management immediately.

Cancellation Policy

If you wish to cancel your accommodation reservation the following terms and conditions apply:

As a small boutique property our business depends on maximising occupancy, cancellations often result in an empty retreat due to booking lead times. Cancellations within 2 months of arrival 50% of total paid will be refunded. Within one month of arrival all monies will be forfeited. No refunds or transfers can be given in the event of non-arrival, any unused services or unused nights due to illness, weather disruption or family emergencies. We strongly recommend that you protect yourself with travel insurance.

Changes to bookings:

If you wish to change your booking to another date please be aware that this may result in an empty retreat due to booking lead times. Management reserves the right to transfer a booking to another date at it’s discretion. A fee of $400.00 per day will apply to any transferred bookings. Transferred bookings will not be offered dates that fall on a long weekend or public holiday. If you decide to leave early no refunds will be issued for the unused portion of your stay, package or unused spa services.

The Cancellation and Refund policy above apply to all bookings. Please purchase travel insurance in order to protect yourself against unforeseen events.
