The Old Mount Gambier Gaol

We offer affordable accommodation for all travellers and groups. Our rooms were all originally ex-prison cells, warden’s offices or residences. We provide accommodation to a constant stream of grey nomads, families, individual travellers, internationals, back packers and corporates seeking a comfy bed in a unique setting.
We have ample free parking which enables us to accommodate vanpackers also. We can arrange pick-up and delivery for guests from public transport within our working hours. All guests have access to shared lounges, kitchens, courtyards, bbqs and bathroom faciliites. We also offer complimentary wifi for all guests. All bed linen, blankets and pillows are provided. Towels are only included in the price for guests who stay in the Family Room, Twin and Double Cells. All other guests may choose to hire towels upon check in or bring their own.
We love to cater for group accommodation and at present offer a fifty-seven bed capacity. We are able to accommodate bus tours, sporting groups and large or small groups.
We also facilitate many school camps. The gaol becomes an excellent home base for the students and teachers. We are located within a five minute walk from the middle of town; we have fantastic kitchen and dining facilities and courtyards and grassed areas for the students to run around in. Most appealing of all may be that all of our facilities are encased by a fifteen foot high stone wall! Escape attempts would be futile!

Terms & Conditions

- Check in time is strictly between 4pm and 9 pm. We do not check in ANY guests after 9pm each night.
- Check out time is 10 AM. Late checkout will incur another nights fee.
- If office is closed, please leave keys in key slot.
- Please leave all dirty linen in your room upon departure.
- All guests are required to provide current credit card details or a cash deposit of $50 as security. Debit cards will NOT be accepted. All guest details are routinely shredded once your room has been checked and cleaned.
- Cleaning fees will be deducted from your credit card if your room smells of smoke, has been damaged or requires excessive cleaning upon your departure.
- A cleaning fee also applies if guests do not use the mattress protectors, two sheets & pillowcase provided on each bed.
- NO alcohol is to be consumed on gaol property unless purchased from our bar. Please note that a cleaning fee will apply if alcohol containers are found whilst cleaning. This charge will be deducted from the credit card supplied.
- The owners and management of The Old Mount Gambier Gaol do not accept any liability for the loss and or damage of personal possessions or property.
- Please note after sighting of room and payment of accommodation NO refund will be given if guests choose to leave.
- All children welcome. Children under 2 years are free when sharing booked beds.
- One child under 2 years is free of charge with access to a porta cot (when available).
- Maximum number of porta cots/ cribs in each room is limited to one.
- Free private parking on site is available for all guests.
- Strictly NO pets/ animals allowed on the property.

Payment Policy

1. A credit card must be supplied to make a reservation, payment will be taken 2 days prior to arrival.

2. Please note after sighting of room and payment of accommodation NO refund will be given if guests choose to leave.

3. Group accommodation will be issued an invoice for a 30% deposit to be paid to secure the booking. Remainder of payment to be made on day of arrival.

Cancellation Policy

1. All accommodation cancellations must be submitted in writing to administration@theoldmountgambiergaol.com.au

2. Accommodation guests cancelling their booking within 48 hours of due arrival time will incur a cancellation fee equal to one nights accommodation for each bed or room booked.

3. All accommodation cancellation charges and refunds will be processed using the credit card details submitted to secure original booking. All refunds will be processed within the following three business days.

4. Any cancellations made for accommodation over a public holiday period will require 72 hours or three days’ notice of cancellation. Any cancellations within this time period will forfeit 100% of the booking monies already paid.

5. If accommodation guests do not cancel their booking and do not check in within The Old Mount Gambier Gaol business hours on the due day of arrival a cancellation fee equivalent to one night’s stay per bed or room booked is applicable. If the guest’s accommodation booking is for more than one night, The Old Mount Gambier Gaol reserves the right to cancel the remainder of your booking and enable other guests to book it for their use.

6. Alterations to accommodation bookings may be made before 48 hours of travel (except over public holidays) at no charge. The Old Mount Gambier Gaol will endeavour to accommodate any requests made within this time frame.
